Egypt’s Armed Forces Logistics Authority on Sunday handed out medical masks for free to citizens at public places, main squares, metro stations and mass-transport stations, Spokesperson for the Armed Forces Tamer al-Refai said.
The Armed Forces also opened five advanced production lines to manufacture medical respiratory masks with a daily production rate of 100,000 masks according to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) standards.
Egypt on Saturday confirmed 11 additional deaths and 145 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s number of confirmed total cases so far to 1,939.
Hundred and forty-six people have died from the virus in Egypt.
The newly infected cases are all Egyptian nationals who returned from abroad or were in contact with previously confirmed cases in Egypt, Health Ministry Spokesperson Khaled Megahed said, adding that the total number of fully-recovered cases rose to 426 on Saturday, all of whom have been discharged from isolation hospitals.
A total of 542 positive cases have been tested in Egypt, with all results now returned negative.
Forty-two cases left quarantine on Saturday.
The Egyptian government on April 8 extended its nationwide curfew until April 23 as part of its precautionary measures to limit the spread of coronavirus.
