Egypt’s annual inflation rate reaches 13.8% in March: CAPMAS

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced an 0.9 percent increase in Egypt’s inflation rate in March compared to the previous month of February, recording 307 points compared to 304.2 points.

In its monthly report on Wednesday, CAPMAS said that the rate of inflation on a year-on-year basis rose to 13.8 percent in March from the same month in 2018, which was 13.1 percent.

The statement pointed out that the rate of inflation from January to March of this year amounted to 13.3 percent.

The agency attributed this rise in monthly inflation rate to the increase in food and drink prices by 1.5 percent compared to the previous month, rising by 15.1 percent compared to March 2018.

The statement said that the rate of inflation in March for urban areas rose by about 0.8 percent to reach 290.7 points compared to 289.2 points of the previous month, while the inflation rate on an annual basis in March reached 14.2 percent, compared to the same month of 2018.

In the rural areas, inflation during the same period increased by 1 percent compared to the previous month to 317 points compared to 314.3 points, while the annual inflation rate was 13.4 percent compared to March of last year.
