Egyptian sporting club Al-Ahly announced on Saturday that it has contracted Swiss coach René Weiler to lead the club’s football team, replacing former Uruguayan coach Martín Lasarte who was sacked after Ahly’s defeat in the Egypt Cup during the knockout stage on August.
In a statement on Saturday, Ahly said it contracted Weiler, three assistants and possibly a performance analyst, to take charge of Ahly’s first team in the coming period.
Ahly’s delegation currently in Europe, which includes Khalid Murtaji, a member of the Board of Directors, and Amir Tawfiq, the Director of Contracts, have concluded all aspects relating to the negotiation, in coordination with the club’s Planning Committee headed by Taha Ismail.
The contract was signed after it was reviewed by Ahly’s attorney in Switzerland.
Weiler, born September 13 1973 in Winterthur, is a Swiss football coach and former Swiss national player. He won the trophy of the Belgian league 16-17 season with Anderlecht. He won the Belgian Super Cup 2017 with the same club. Weiler was named Belgium’s best coach in 2017.
