Egyptian is world’s 2nd in javelin throwing

Egyptian Ehab Abdel Rahman has placed second in the world’s 15th javelin throwing championship currently hosted in Beijing.

This is Egypt’s first silver medal in the championship since its start in 1983.

Abdel Rahman had also qualified to for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.

"I started my athletics career career in high school to boost my grades,” Abdel Rahman told Al-Masry Al-Youm. “When I moved from my hometown, Kafr Saqr, to Cairo to join al-Ahly Sports Club, I found no where to live except an unfinished, windowless flat in Ezbet al-Haggana (east of Cairo).”

“Another unforgettable situation was when I had to take part in the London Olympics without a proper shoe. The Egyptian association had refused to buy me a new one, so I had to play with my torn shoe, so I lost,” Abdel Rahman stated.
