Egyptian Squash Association President Asem Kalifa commented on the naturalization of Marwan al-Shorbagy with a British citizenship, following in the footsteps of his brother.
During televised statements, Kalifa said: “Marwan said this is my decision, and I made it of my own will,” indicating that the player spoke with the sponsor and told him that he did not want to continue.
“Marwan al-Shorbagy told me that I have two years remaining, and I want a guarantee and to secure my future.”
Kalifa said that the player’s decision is individual and there was no interference from anyone, adding that he is more upset with Marwan’s departure.
“I feel uncomfortable when going out to defend a player and the country, stressing that work is being done well on the players and they are doing everything they can do,” he said.
He pointed out that: “Heliopolis Club renewed contract with Marwan al-Shorbagy at the highest category, amounting to LE350,000, explaining that the players calculate the money in dollars and can achieve this amount in a week in any foreign country, and the players have great ambition.”
“I will cry for the two sons who walked away from me, and whoever made them can make more others, and we have stars to remove rust from them.”
