Egyptian soccer league to resume despite Zamalek match riot

The Egyptian government on Tuesday decided to resume Egyptian soccer league matches on 13 April.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) had on Sunday announced the league's postponement after rioting took place at an African Champions League match between Egypt's Zamalek team and Tunisia's Club Africain.

Hundreds of rioters stormed Cairo Stadium's pitch on Saturday during the last few minutes of the match, attacking referees and Tunisian players.

Officials from EFA have asked the Ministry of Interior for guarantees that no similar incidents will happen if the tournament resumes.

The tournament was previously suspended for more than two months during the 25 January revolution. The last match in the league was played on 22 January.
