Egyptian police announced Saturday that they had detected four smuggling tunnels at the border with the Gaza Strip.
A security source said that the new tunnels were discovered on Saturday during a security crackdown in the Sinai peninsula.
The tunnels are used to smuggle goods, diesel fuel, gasoline, and building materials.
The source said that no one was detected nearby or inside the tunnels. Tunnel openings were heavily guarded until they were destroyed.
The number of border tunnels to Gaza is in decline, due to Israeli bombing and the Egyptian authorities' continual detection and destruction of them.
