The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shokry, had a discussion with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, on Monday, on the challenges that face the Arab region and the world, such as combating terrorism and the situation in Syria, Libya, Iraq and Yemen.
During a joint press conference, in Moscow, Shokry said that he delivered a message from President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi to the Russian President Vladimir Putin that confirmed Egypt is committed to maintaining contact with Russia and developing bilateral relations.
Lavrov talked about the Egyptian nuclear station project in the Dabaa area, Matrouh governorate, revealing that the two countries signed the project’s main contract in December 2016 and are ready to sign another three contracts to build the nuclear station.
The Russian minister added that the two countries will commence the technical consultations concerning the establishment of Free Trade Areas, between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union, in the coming weeks.
Additionally, Shokry and Lavrov tackled the Russian intention to send a peace envoy to the Middle East to address the Palestinian case. Lavrov said that Russia appreciated Egypt’s positive problem-solving role in the crises.
They further discussed the resumption of flights between Egypt and Russia, as Shokry asserted that Egypt looks forward to resuming the Russian flights to tourist destinations in Egypt as soon as they sorted out the full extent of negotiations.
