Mostafa Atef has become the first Egyptian to call for prayers in Russia’s largest mosque, which was re-opened by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with a number of Arab and Muslim leaders in attendance, right before the beginning of Eid al-Adha.
Atef said the mosque, which was built in 1904, is located on 19,000 square meters of land and can accommodate 10,000 worshipers, making it the largest mosque in Europe. Its renovation cost US$170 million.
