Egyptian-Portuguese summit to take place in Lisbon

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will hold talks on Monday with his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Lisbon over boosting bilateral ties.

Sisi arrived on Sunday in Portugal for a three-day official visit. The visit is the first official one by an Egyptian president to Portugal since over twenty years. It’s also the first one hosted by Portugal since the inauguration of de Sousa in March.

The summit will explore ways of boosting bilateral ties and fighting terrorism, as well as tackling developments in the major issues of the Middle East, according to a previous statement released by the presidency.

The two leaders will hold a joint press conference after the talks. Sisi will then meet with the Portuguese prime minister.

Scheduled for Tuesday, Sisi will meet with several Portuguese businessmen to discuss fostering joint investments in the fields of new and renewable energy, construction, information technology, telecommunications and maritime transportation.
