Egyptian police shot dead an Eritrean who was trying to cross the border into Israel late Wednesday.
Security sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that border security observed the 20-year-old near the Taba crossing and fired warning shots, but the man did not stop, forcing security to shoot him.
Police shot the man in the back and he was then transferred to Arish Public Hospital where he died.
Cairo has drawn criticism from international organizations for the proliferation of deadly shootings of migrants near the border.
More than 3000 people, mostly refugees and asylum seekers, have illegally crossed the border this year, according to the Israeli Interior Ministry's Immigration Authority,
Israel is currently constructing a border fence in an attempt to curb illegal migration to the country.
