Participants at the meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives recommended taking a number of measures to support the Palestinian cause and begin holding the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people.
The meeting saw MPs and jurists agree to develop a plan divided across various stages meant to communicate with the relevant committees in the European parliaments, the US and Canada, as well as interested parliaments in South America, Asia, and Africa to mobilize efforts to pressure the Israeli occupation to stop the forced displacement of Palestinians from northern Gaza to southern Gaza and allowing aid to enter the Strip urgently.
The participants also stressed the importance of building a network of relations to cooperate with important international civil society organizations, which took remarkable positions during the crisis to mobilize efforts.
They recommended holding an emergency session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, including briefings from the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, the International Committee of the Red Cross, representatives of civil society organizations and others about the crimes committed against Gaza and to determine the parties responsible.
The jurists also seek to present a draft resolution to the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding serious violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in Gaza.
They also seek to assign the independent international investigation committee concerned with the occupied Palestinian territory, formed by the Human Rights Council, to begin an urgent field investigation on the international crimes committed in the Gaza Strip starting October 7.
The participants demanded that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court urgently send an investigation mission to Gaza and the West Bank, to collect evidence, hear testimonies, and document all possible violations within the court’s jurisdiction – such as war crimes, crimes against humanity, or the crime of genocide and incitement to commit it.
They also recommended organizing a number of public and private meetings in important capitals to explain Egypt’s position in support of the Palestinian cause, the dangers that threaten the peace process in the region as a result of Israeli aggression, and depriving the Palestinians of their right to an independent state on their lands.
