Egyptian minister boycotts development conference in Jerusalem

Spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hossam Zaky on Thursday said Egypt boycotted an Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) tourism meeting in Jerusalem in objection to an inflammatory remark by an Israeli minister.

The minister, according to Zaky, claimed the meeting's location proves the holy city is the Israeli capital.

The two-day event began Wednesday.

Zaky labelled the Israeli attempt to politicize the meeting and coerce international recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital as “an unacceptable policy."

East Jerusalem is internationally regarded–and supported by international accords–as occupied territory, according to Zaky.

Zaky said that the OECD should have rejected the remarks, in addition to canceling or relocating the meeting.
