Egyptian killed in Lebanon for suspected honor crime, family feud

Four months after the lynching of an Egyptian national in the Lebanese village of Ketermaya, Lebanese authorities found the decomposed body of Lebanese-Egyptian Mohamed Ibrahim Idris hanging in an olive grove outside the northern Lebanese city of Akkar.

According to Lebanese daily As-Safir, Idris had been hanged with a Lebanese flag.

Preliminary investigations by local police suggest that Idris' death had been the result of a family vendetta or honor crime.

Idris, 30, was born of a Lebanese mother and Egyptian father resident in Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities suspect the victim was murdered by his sister’s fiance, noting that the latter had recently eloped with Idris' sister.

The Egyptian embassy in Beirut, meanwhile, is closely following the investigation and has requested that Lebanese authorities confirm Idris' Egyptian nationality.
