Judicial sources at the High Elections Commission have said that allowing Egyptian expatriates to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections has raised controversy within the commission over the need for judicial supervision abroad. An administrative court earlier ruled that Egyptian living abroad should be permitted to vote.
The Foreign Ministry told the commission abroad voting would be impossible, as it has no data of the exact number of expatriates living outside of Egypt and time is too short to collect such data.
The sources also said that such votes would be void due to the absence of judicial supervision.
