Foreign Ministry spokesman Amr Roushdy said on Wednesday that the ministry had begun receiving the voting figures for the second phase of parliamentary elections from Egyptian embassies and consulates abroad.
“Eighty embassies and consulates have sent [figures] so far,” Roushdy said, adding that the final count would be submitted to the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections on Thursday.
“Our embassy in Abu Dhabi sent 6000 votes,” he said, adding that the ministry is still awaiting counts from the embassies in Kuwait and Riyadh, two major sources of expatriate votes.
For his part, Egyptian Ambassador in Qatar Mahmoud Abul Donia said 7501 Egyptian expats have registered to vote.
“We shall complete counting in a few hours,” he said, adding that embassies are not authorized to announce the results. “Only the supreme elections committee has that right.”
