The world is witnessing a boom in the collecting and storing of “Big Data.”
Yasser Shaaban, an Egyptian researcher with a Ph.D. from the Université de Montréal, has designed a program that can predict and help avoid disasters in engineering-related industries.
Dr. Somaya Yakout, a professor of engineering in Canada, said Shaaban’s research, which is published under the title “Logical Analysis of Data,” won the best research award in 2014 from the American Association for Systems Engineering.
She said Shabaan's research helps avoid disaster resulting from errors in engineering and infrastructure systems by predicting when they would occur, based on patterns.
Yakout has the copyright for the research, which she is willing to donate to Egypt.
According Shaaban, the program can accurately calculate the life expectancy of equipment, roads and facilities, thereby reducing waste among natural resources.
He said Egypt can make use of the program in controlling water, energy and fuel consumption waste.
