The State Council administrative court issued a ruling obliging the head of National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology to block pornographic websites, said the state-owned daily Al-Ahram .
The court held a hearing for a lawsuit filed by Abdel Aziz Orabi, which demanded that all adult sites be blocked to protect Egyptian religious traditions and customs, curb vice and maintain ethics.
The Telecom Minister, Mohamed Abdel Kader Salem, announced this month that an NTRA committee be formed to set the technical methods to control such sites, which number in the millions. The issue was also discussed by Parliament.
The Transportation and Telecommunications Committee of the People’s Assembly requested this month to block porn sites and called for a legislative amendment to the telecommunications law punishing internet companies that allow access to such sites.
