An Egyptian court on Tuesday backed a decision preventing ousted president Hosni Mubarak from accessing his personal bank accounts, as well as another account devoted for the Bibliotheca Alexandrina at the National Bank of Egypt (NBE).
The Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) had submitted a request to Cairo's criminal court, asking it deny former president Hosni Mubarak from accessing his bnak accounts.
IGA investigations had revealed Mubarak had conducted the deposits and cash withdrawals made through the NBE’s account and not his wife, Suzanne, as mentioned in earlier reports submitted in that respect. The account was allocated for donations to the library, but library administration said it did not know the account existed.
Several businessmen and government officials had their assets frozen and were banned from travel following the 25 January Revolution.
