The Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), the company responsible for exporting natural gas to Israel, denied on Wednesday that gas exports to Israel had been resumed.
GASCO Head Magdy Tawfiq told Al-Masry Al-Youm that repair work is still ongoing on Sinai's Arish pipeline, which was damaged by an explosion on Monday.
Tawfiq explained that the company shut off valves to stop the flow of gas, while residual gas was drawn out of the pipe to empty it. He said the company was working to repair the damage and that he expected the repairs to end quickly due to the limited damage.
Meanwhile, a senior security source from North Sinai Governorate, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the repair process is still ongoing. The source explained that substantial time is required for testing the pipeline before the flow of gas can be resumed.
