Egyptian, Canadian FMs discuss evolving situation in Sudan

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry Monday received a phone call from his Canadian counterpart Mélanie Joly on the latest developments of the situation in Sudan, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The Canadian foreign minister expressed deep concern towards the deteriorating security situations in Sudan and their impact on civilians and expats, the spokesman said.

During the phone call, Joly has shown eagerness to get posted on the Egyptian side’s assessment of the current situation in Sudan as well as Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement.

Minister Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s efforts towards reaching the ceasefire, Abu Zeid said, noting that the top-diplomat highlighted Egypt’s ongoing communication with the effective regional and international parties in this regard, including coordinating and unifying messages being directed to the Sudanese parts alongside guaranteeing the external parties’ non-interference in Sudan’s affairs in a way that may fuel the ongoing conflict.

The two sides agreed on maintaining consultation and coordination throughout the coming period, in order to intensifying efforts meant to assist Sudan to overcome the current crisis, the spokesman added.
