Egyptian businessman Hisham Talaat Moustafa offers alternative to Trump’s plan for Gaza

The CEO and Managing Director of the Talaat Moustafa Group, Hisham Talaat Moustafa, criticized US President Donald Trump’s plan to displace the residents of Gaza and rebuild it is illogical and impossible to implement on the ground.

During an interview with TV host Amr Adib on the “al-Hekaya” (The Story) on Saturday, Moustafa presented an alternative project to Trump’s plan.

“Instead of the proposed plan with an investment of two trillion dollars, we only need US$27 billion to establish a proper community for the people of Gaza and the tension will decrease and the atmosphere will calm down,” he explained.

Moustafa’s $27 billion proposal would be implemented over three years, including the launch of infrastructure and services worth four billion dollars, and health, sports and entertainment services worth about three billion dollars.

Consisting of six stages, this alternative plan aims to build 200,000 housing units, representing 20 million square meters of buildings, at a total cost of $20 billion, accommodating about 1.3 million Palestinian citizens in Gaza, and will be implemented by about 50 contracting companies from Egypt and abroad.

Moustafa explained that Trump’s statements about Gaza being the Riviera of the Middle East are illogical and  unfeasible, adding: “Whoever wants to make investments and a Riviera should go to Egypt, which has 2,000 kilometers of beaches and will be cheaper.”

He explained that his company’s projects in “al-Rehab” and “Madinaty” include about 180,000 housing units, and the “Nour” project under construction includes 120,000 housing units, adding that Egypt has built one million housing units and can help implement the reconstruction of Gaza.
