Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris is seeking to establish a political party with the goal of bringing about Egypt's social and economic rebirth and upholding citizens’ rights.
Sawiris said the party would be called “the Free Egyptians” and use the slogan “We build the future together so Egypt restores its glories.”
Novelist Youssef al-Qaeed told Al-Masry Al-Youm that he, along with other writers and novelists, has been asked to propose ideas for the new party.
“Although I’m still a member of Tagammu Party I’m very much convinced by Naguib Sawiris, who wants to found a liberal party of real effect among people.”
Informed sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the party’s objectives are based on preserving Egyptians' dignity inside and outside Egypt, drafting legislation to make Egyptians equal without discrimination, and creating an atmosphere that attracts investment in the country.
According to the sources, the new party will support judiciary independence and the separation of powers. It wants Egypt to be a civil democratic country that gives citizens the freedom to practice their religious rituals and social traditions.
