Egyptian ambassador asserts keenness on fostering economic cooperation with Slovenia

Egypt’s Ambassador in Ljubljana Nahla al-Zawahiri stressed keenness on fostering economic cooperation with Slovenia in light of the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and to benefit from available investment opportunities.

According to a press release by the foreign ministry on Friday 26/7/2024, this came during her meeting with Nevenka Kržan, President of the Management Board of the port of Koper, where they discussed ways to strengthen Egyptian-Slovenian relations in the economic, trade, investment, maritime and port domains.

The ambassador shed light on efforts for the development of the Egyptian state that have been taking place since 2016, the challenges Egypt has recently been facing due to successive global and regional crises, the national economic reform program and Egypt’s steadfastness in the face of all challenges, as well as the diverse investment opportunities in the Egyptian market.

She noted that the port of Koper is one of the most important ports overlooking the Adriatic Sea, commending the existing cooperation between it and the ports of Alexandria and Damietta in the container shipping and logistics fields and expressing hope for increasing Egyptian exports to European Union countries through the Slovenian port.

For her part, Kržan said the meeting comes at an important timing, citing the huge efforts being exerted to develop the port and pointing out that their strategy includes targeting the Egyptian market, as it is one of the largest markets in the Mediterranean region. She added that the port management has decided to revive an event that used to be held in Egypt annually under the title of “Koper Day,” and has been stopped since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, pointing out that the next “Koper Day” ceremony will be organized in Cairo on October 22.
