EgyptAir resumes flights to storm-battered New York

EgyptAir resumed flights from Cairo to New York City Wednesday, after a two-day suspension amid hurricane-force winds, heavy rain and fires in the US city.

Airports in the states of New York and New Jersey began to reopen Wednesday with limited service in the wake of the storm, Sandy. An EgyptAir official said the company had obtained the approval of authorities at John F. Kennedy International Airport to operate its New York-bound flights.

Two flights carrying more than 600 passengers left for New York on Wednesday morning, the source added.
