EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering company (EGME) signed a cooperation agreement with multinational aerospace corporation Airbus to provide Airbus A220 airplanes with maintenance services, according to a statement by EgyptAir on Monday during the 2019 Dubai Airshow held between November 17-21.
EgyptAir clarified that a number of global airplane manufacturing companies signed technical cooperation agreements with EgyptAir related to maintenance and use of the company’s brand name, adding that the agreements should help EGME to bolster its position in the global market and attract more passengers from the Middle East and North Africa.
The company’s request to get involved in Airbus manufacturing came on the sidelines of a ceremony celebrating the airline’s receipt of an Airbus A220-300 in September.
Civil Aviation Ministry officials have discussed the possibility of Airbus establishing a factory in Egypt with CEO of the Airbus Canada partnership Philippe Balducci and Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Airbus Middle East Fouad Attar.
The Dubai Airshow was launched in 1986 and has since evolved to become one of the largest aerospace events worldwide. The single-largest show was held in 2017, with 1,200 exhibitors attending from 63 countries, over 79,380 trade visitors recorded, 159 aircraft on display, 1,603 international and regional media outlets present and an order book measuring in at US$113.8 billion.
