Egypt won the presidency seat of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Sub Commission for Africa and the Adjacent Island States as National Institute for Fisheries and Marine Sciences Professor Mohammed Saed was victorious in the elections in Kenya on March 25-27.
Ambassador to France and UNESCO’s permanent representative of Egypt Ehab Badawi thanked Morocco and Tunisia after they withdrew their candidates and supported professor Saed in the elections.
Nigeria, Madagascar and Senegal won seats as deputy heads of the IOC Sub Commission for Africa in the elections.
Egypt aspires to host the “Pan-African Conference on Marine Science and Technology” in 2020, an important scientific conference on marine and ocean sciences.
UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) promotes international cooperation and coordinates programs in marine research, services, observation systems, hazard mitigation, and capacity development in order to understand and effectively manage the resources of oceans and coastal areas.
