Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty announced on Saturday that Egypt will reopen all roads closed to foreign embassies within the country and remove any barriers to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Speaking exclusively to Al-Masry Al-Youm on the sidelines of the first symposium of the “Maspero Cultural Salon” program at the National Media Authority, he stressed: “Unequivocally, all barriers will be removed and roads will be opened to all foreign embassies in Egypt.”
Egypt previously removed security barriers in front of the British Embassy building in downtown Cairo at the end of August.
This came following statements by the Foreign Minister criticizing countries with Egyptian embassies that failed to protect from successive attacks, under the pretext of “unjust allegations” that betray dubious political motives that serve Israeli’s interests and mislead the public on the genocide in Gaza.
Regarding the relocation of embassies to the New Administrative Capital, Abdelatty said: “We are awaiting preparations there, and in the meantime, we will open the closed streets and remove the barriers.”
