Egypt welcomes UN resolution on Two-State Solution

Egypt hailed the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the New York Declaration on the implementation of the Two-State Solution, which supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

A statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that this resolution comes as a result of the high-level UN conference regarding the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the Two-State Solution, which was co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France in New York in July.

Egypt affirmed that the resolution’s approval by 142 countries is conclusive evidence of widespread international support for legitimate Palestinian rights, especially the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Egypt urged all countries that supported the resolution to join forces to implement the outcomes of the conference, ensuring the restoration of the Middle East peace process and putting an end to Israel’s policies of aggression.

The statement stressed that this goal, “Will not be achieved except through intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and to end blatant Israeli violations and its use of starvation and siege as a weapon to force the Palestinian people to emigrate and leave their land—something that Egypt rejects under any name or pretext.”
