
CAIRO, Aug 9 (MENA) – Egypt on Saturday welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration expressed hope that the agreement would open new horizons of constructive cooperation in various fields between the two countries.
The statement added that the deal will also help consolidate the foundations of peace, security and stability in the Caucasus region and serve the interests of the peoples of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the wider region as well as prospects for regional development and prosperity.
Egypt praised the mediation efforts exerted by the US, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, in facilitating the agreement in recent months.
Meanwhile, Egypt expressed aspiration that the US’ constructive diplomatic efforts in mediation could extend to the Middle East in a way that contributes to restoring peace and stability in the region.
Furthermore, Egypt affirmed its full support for regional and international efforts that aim to resolve conflicts in peaceful and diplomatic ways and promote dialogue as a mean to safeguard international peace and security. (MENA)
