Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday announced an initiative to grant 30 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to African countries, as part of cooperation efforts between Egypt and African countries.
Sisi’s statement came during the opening activities of the first African medical conference and exhibition – “Africa Health ExCon” – held at Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC) in al-Manara International Conference Center.
The conference was launched in the presence of the Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, and some ministers and senior statesmen.
More than 400 members of the Health Care Chamber and international and local companies working in various medical services are participating in the conference.
The event will also witness a review of the developments that took place in the Egyptian medical sector during the tenures of President Sisi, with the establishment of a comprehensive health insurance system and the elimination of Hepatitis C.
The conference will also review the infrastructure upgrades of various government and private hospitals that made them stand firm against coronavirus pandemic.
It will also ensure they follow the latest scientific foundations against the coronavirus announced by the World Health Organization, whether by providing treatment protocols or through the use of the latest analysis equipment for immediate detection of the virus.
The conference will also seek increasing joint cooperation with African countries in health care and transferring Egyptian scientific expertise to them in managing and equipping hospitals, providing nursing services, and displaying the capabilities of Egyptian medical companies from advanced devices to equip hospitals and their analysis and radiology centers.
Egypt will offer to receive African patients in Egyptian hospitals and provide treatment for them instead of traveling to Europe and establishing bilateral partnerships to establish one-day surgery hospitals in those countries, as the first phase targets seven to eight African countries.
