Egypt to introduce ‘Instagram Filters’ at museums

The Deputy CEO of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) Fayrouz Fikry discussed the introduction of “Instagram Filters” within the NMEC in Fustat and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

During a Sunday phone interview with Extra News channel, Fikry said that: “This experience aims to enrich the tourist’s experience inside the museum and will contribute to enhancing communication on topics related to the museum on social media, in addition to its entertainment and educational role.”

Cooperation was made with the global company Meta to implement the “Instagram Filters” project, she added, which aims to create a virtual simulation using virtual reality technology to show the original shape of the artifact.

Fikry said that eight artifacts were carefully selected to reflect the different historical eras of Egyptian civilization, in the central hall.

These filters can be used inside the museum, where visitors can activate them in front of the artifact and scan it using a smartphone to view the original form of the piece and how the ancient Egyptians made it thousands of years ago.

Fikry said that the visitor can scan it using their mobile phone to see the entire artifact, videos and photos of it, and to which era this piece belongs.

She stressed: “We aim to raise tourism and archaeological awareness among Egyptian youth and introduce tourists to the greatness of Egyptian civilization”

This project will be the first in the Middle East and all the world dedicated to a museum via Instagram, she said.
