Egypt on Saturday will host an international and regional summit to discuss the worsening conditions resulting from Israeli aggression on Gaza.
High-level Egyptian sources told AlQahera News that “There is a large and broad response to President Sisi’s invitation to attend the summit.”
Egypt on Sunday had called to hold a regional and international summit on the Palestinian issue at the conclusion of the Egyptian National Security Council meeting.
Backed by Russia
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, agreed on the importance of giving priority towards supporting the truce process in Palestine, restoring stability, and ensuring the protection of civilians.
During a phone call that Sisi received from Putin, the two leaders warned of the serious humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the necessity of providing safe access to humanitarian and relief aid urgently.
Sisi and Putin also agreed on working seriously to address the causes of the crisis, especially the continued absence of a political horizon for settling the Palestinian issue in a just and lasting manner, and establishing the Palestinian state in accordance with the agreed international legitimacy references.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Ahmed Fahmy said that call also reviewed the ongoing diplomatic moves to contain the situation and prevent the expansion of violence and conflict that threaten the security and stability of the region.
French support
President Sisi also met with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna to discuss the latest developments in the most prominent regional issues, especially the Gaza Strip.
The French side presented its vision on the matter while praising Egypt’s pivotal role in responsibly dealing with the issue and its political and humanitarian aspects.
During the Monday meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Fahmy said that President Sisi stressed that the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip call for the international community to assume its responsibilities by providing an urgent relief response to aid the people of Gaza.
Sisi called to reduce the escalation and not punish civilians collectively via besieging their homes, starvation, or displacement.
Fahmy added that during the meeting, an agreement was reached regarding the seriousness of the current situation and its threat to the region.
