Minister of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha al-Gendy announced that efforts are in place to establish an emergency fund for Egyptian expats.
She said that joint talks were made between her ministry and the Ministry of Social Solidarity to establish the fund, which had been requested by expatriates during their conference issued in July.
During a telephone interview with the Al-Hadath Al-Youm TV channel on Sunday, Gendy added that the ministry is working to establish the fund as soon as possible.
She assured that her ministry will work to help Egyptians abroad as much as possible.
The fund will be an investment affiliated with Nasser Social Bank, the minister said, adding that “Egyptians abroad can participate with dollars, euros, or according to their currency, and this fund can provide benefits in the long term.”
The fund will have a board of directors that will decide upon critical cases to intervene with, she said, such as when an expatriate is fired from their job and has no source of income and has obligations, if a person is involved in an accident or is exposed to a problem and needs to hire a lawyer.
