Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Monday that plans are in place to expand Egypt’s airline fleet, following the significant boom country’s tourism sector has seen recently.
He highlighted his ongoing work with Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh Hefny on this matter.
Madbouly’s comments came during his chairmanship of a ministerial tourism committee meeting at the government’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The meeting focused on strategies to advance the tourism sector and develop hotels to accommodate the growing number of incoming tourists.
Attendees included the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam, the Minister of Local Development Manal Awad, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kojok, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, and Minister of Culture Ahmed Heno.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the tourism sector is currently the fastest-growing and most effective in attracting foreign currency, a fact confirmed by experts.
The noticeable increase in tourist arrivals aligns with the government’s goals, he added.
Madbouly confirmed that he is closely monitoring all developments in the aviation sector, including the efforts to expand the fleet, and praised the work of the Minister of Civil Aviation.
He also mentioned that the Ministry of Civil Aviation, in collaboration with other relevant bodies, is working on offering a number of airports to be managed and operated by top global private sector specialists.
In addition to fleet expansion, the government is working to increase the number of hotel rooms, particularly in the North Coast, to handle future tourist growth.
The Prime Minister also praised the “Marassi Red Sea” project signed on Monday, calling it a major addition to tourism development in the Red Sea region and Egypt as a whole.
Madbouly reviewed recent measures taken to support the tourism sector, particularly simplifying the process for certain tourism-related activities.
He explained that a comprehensive list of suitable land plots for building hotels on the Nile is now available and ready to be offered to the private sector. He also noted that new hotel facilities will be part of several projects, such as the Fustat Hills Gardens project.
