Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended in the new city of El Alamein the signing of a contract for the manufacture and supply of 320 vehicles for the second and third lines of the metro, with 40 new vehicles, between the National Tunnels Authority and the South Korean Hyundai Rotem / NERC alliance.
The contract includes two years of warranty, eight years of maintenance work, and one major life span for each country, with a total value of US$656 million, with a localization rate of 30 percent.
The Minister of Transport, Kamel al-Wazir, said that the second and third metro lines, after their completion, will transport about three million passengers per day.
He added that cooperation with major international companies specialized in the localization of the mobile unit industry will make Egypt one of the first countries manufacturing mobile units in the Middle East and Africa.
