Egypt to abolish mandatory quarantine for returnees in favor of home quarantine: official

Acting Chairman of EgyptAir Mohamed Rushdy Zakaria announced on Tuesday that the mandatory quarantine period for Egyptians returning to Egypt on special repatriation flights is expected to be abolished soon.

Zakaria said in a press statement: “A decision is expected abolishing the [mandatory] quarantine and limiting procedures to at-home quarantine, in order to facilitate procedures for returnees.”

Egypt’s Ministry of Health in May reduced the quarantine period for Egyptian returnees to seven days, down from 14.

The number of coronavirus infections in Egypt has been increasing significantly over the past several days.

According to the latest statistics, Egypt has recorded a total 26,384 cases, while the death toll rose to 1,005.
