
CAIRO, April 19 (MENA) – Egypt’s Ambassador in Congo Hisham Hisham al-Makoud has participated in a ceremony to hand over the chairmanship of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Council of Ministers of Trade to Egypt from Tanzania.
Head of the Trade Representation Office in Kinshasa Ahmed Mengy was also present at the ceremony, which took place on the margins of the 16th Meeting of the AfCFTA Council of Ministers, held on April 15 in the presence of President of Congo Felix- Antoine Tshisekedi.
Egypt has taken over the council’s chairmanship as part of its leading role in supporting continental economic integration.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Assistant Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed El Gawsaqi, who took over the council’s chairmanship on behalf of Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan Al-Khatib, emphasized Egypt’s commitment to promoting its role in supporting intra-African trade and advancing comprehensive and sustainable economic development in Africa.
A delegation from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade has also participated in AfCFTA institutional meetings hosted by the Congolese capital. (MENA)
