Egypt supports Iraq’s stability in its celebration of the centenary of its founding

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Friday congratulated Iraq on the centenary of the founding of the modern Iraqi state.

Sisi wrote through his official account on Twitter, Friday: “The brothers in Iraq celebrate today an occasion that I consider dear to the entire Arab nation. It is the centenary of the founding of the modern Iraqi state… a hundred years have passed since the Cairo Conference in 1921, which inaugurated the establishment of the Iraqi state, as an extension of an ancient civilization that is deeply rooted in history.”

He added: “One hundred years witnessed many historical stations in the march of Iraq, the Arab nation, and indeed the whole world… On my own behalf and on behalf of the Egyptian people, we congratulate brotherly Iraq on this precious occasion, and we wish its great and proud people peace, security and stability, and that Iraq will always remain an asset to the Arab nation.”

Trade exchange between Egypt and Iraq has moved on positively despite the coronavirus pandemic, with the total volume of trade exchange amounting to US$747.6 million last year, compared to $551.3 million in 2019 – an increase of 36 percent.

The value of Egyptian exports to Iraq amounted to $421.7 million last year compared to $411.4 million in 2019, an increase of three percent, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry.
