Egypt strongly condemned the foiled suicide bombing attack at Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mosque in Mecca on Friday, which resulted in the injury of 11 people.
The Egyptian government and people support the government and people of Saudi Arabia against any attempt to target its security and stability, a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry said on Friday. The statement praised Saudi security forces for their vigilance and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
Targeting the Grand Mosque which is the most sacred place of Muslims around the world during those blessed days of the holy month of Ramadan reflect the fact that these abhorrent terrorist groups do not represent or abide by the teachings of Islam, the statement added.
The Foreign Ministry called on the international community to coordinate efforts to fight terrorism and drain the sources of its funding.
“We stand with our Saudi sister in the same trench against brutal terrorism,” said Mukhtar Gomaa, the Minister of Religious Endowments, stressing that the terrorist attack is a clear mockery of the rituals of Islam and visitors of the Grand Mosque.
“These groups, which shed blood and violate sanctuaries are terrorist groups treacherous to their religion and their homeland,” he added.
