Egypt slams Netanyahu’s ‘misleading’ statements

Egypt on Sunday harshly condemned the statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to an American channel on Saturday.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a statement explaining that Netanyahu’s statements include unfounded allegations and deliberate misleading which aims to hinder the efforts made by Egypt since the beginning of the war on Gaza.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement said that Egypt dispatched urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, the latest of which included 5,000 trucks from Egypt since the ceasefire started, and also facilitated the passage of dual nationals wounded and injured.

Egypt stressed that these statements aim to divert attention from the many violations committed by Israel and the destruction of vital Palestinian facilities, including hospitals, educational institutions, power stations, and drinking water facilities, in addition to using starvation as a weapon against civilians.

Egypt further expressed its complete rejection to any statements aimed at displacing the Palestinian people to Egypt, Jordan, or Saudi Arabia, and expressed its solidarity with the people of Gaza who continue cling to their land despite the horrors they face, in recognition of their rights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its strict adherence to the established Egyptian and Arab principles based on the right of the Palestinian people to establish their state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Netayanhu says the dream of a Palestinian state is over

Netanyahu said on Saturday that the idea of a Palestinian state ended after October 7, 2023, accusing Egypt of turning Gaza Strip into an “open-air prison” by preventing the forced displacement of Palestinians.

The Israeli Prime Minister added in an interview with Fox News that Trump’s plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza is “the first new idea in years,” claiming that removing Palestinians from Gaza is not comparable to ethnic cleansing.

Palestinians will be able to return to their land after a “temporary transition” but on condition that they disavow Hamas, which Netanyahu slammed as a ‘terrorist’ organization.

Responding to countries opposing the plan, he said: “If these countries consider Gaza Strip an open prison, why do they want to keep the Palestinians in prison?”
