Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has slammed the theft of humanitarian aid brought into Rafah by Israeli soldiers.
During a phone call with the United Nations Chief Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in the Gaza Strip Sigrid Kach on Tuesday, Shoukry criticized Israel over its lack of commitment to protecting aid and ensuring that it reaches those who need it.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu-Zeid stated the call addressed the situation in Gaza Strip in light of the obstacles placed by Israel on the entry of aid and the increasing severity of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
The call comes out of Egypt’s desire to consult with the UN official prior to her monthly briefing to the UN Security Council, he added.
Shoukry was interested to learn of the UN official’s assessment on how to mitigate the severity of the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
These include the result of her discussions with Israeli officials to alleviate its restrictions on the movement of trucks at the crossings.
Abu-Zeid explained that the Foreign Minister and the UN official discussed the status on bringing humanitarian aid into Gaza Strip, and the current situation of the Rafah crossing following Israel’s destruction of the Palestinian side of the crossing.
