Egypt, Seychelles FMs stress boosting economic, investment cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of upgrading economic, trade and investment cooperation between Egypt and Seychelles, particularly in the sectors of tourism, renewable energy, environment and maritime security, while making use of opportunities offered by the two countries’ membership in the COMESA bloc.

Meeting with Seychelles Foreign Minister Barry Faure on Wednesday, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s pride in the two countries’ distinguished bilateral relations, affirming Cairo’s keenness to further enhance cooperation and coordination in various political and developmental fields on issues of mutual interest, whether at the bilateral level or within regional and multilateral frameworks.

He highlighted the competitive edge of Egyptian pharmaceuticals in Africa, voicing hope for cooperation with the Seychellois side to facilitate the entry of Egyptian medicines into Seychelles to meet the needs of its health sector.

The foreign minister encouraged Egyptian investments in tourism, including the construction and management of tourist resorts, as well as increasing the export of Egyptian products related to hotel supplies.

He underscored the importance of boosting cooperation in training and capacity building, benefiting from programs and courses organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, especially in priority areas for Seychelles.

Abdelatty also stressed the need to strengthen security cooperation, particularly in the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, to address maritime challenges, secure shipping lanes, protect coastlines and combat piracy.

The two ministers exchanged views on ways to support peace, security and comprehensive development in Africa, agreeing to continue coordination and consultation bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks, notably the African Union, as well as to maintain the exchange of nominations in various international forums.MENA
