A government source detailed the Egyptian government’s plan to manage and operate several airports by private sector companies.
A timetable is already in place for the project, which he said will be finalized before August 20, the Cairo 24 news website report on Sunday.
This plan comes within the Egyptian airports development strategy, the source explained, through which the state aspires to advance the civil aviation sector.
Up to 20 airports will be offered under a global operating system through partnering with major specialized companies, coordinated with concerned authorities and followed-up by the Cabinet.
These major companies that will be contracted to manage airports will be among the most important companies in this field, he said, and have extensive experience in managing major airports globally.
The state is working to select a specialized international consultant to develop an integrated plan for offering Egyptian airports, the source said.
Egyptian Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed al-Hommosany, explained that the private sector is responsible for managing and operating airports in many major countries, including some Arab nations.
Airports are the face of Egypt, he said, and the services there must be improved.
Private sector intervention will be in management and operation and not selling airports to the private sector, he explained.
Hommosany stated that the ultimate goal is to improve service for travelers, support the private sector, and accommodate the increased tourism targets the Egyptian state is currently seeking.
