Egypt scales up strategic readiness in energy and food

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly conducted a high-stakes inspection of Egypt’s critical infrastructure in Suez on Saturday, signaling a shift toward a more aggressive “strategic readiness” posture.

As the regional conflict escalates, the Prime Minister reviewed the nation’s energy and food security pillars, emphasizing that maintaining surplus reserves is now a matter of national security.

Energy resilience

Accompanied by Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi, Madbouly visited the Sumed Petroleum Port at Ain Sokhna to oversee the “regasification” process of Liquefied Natural Gas shipments.

The visit aims to ensure a seamless gas supply to the national power grid to prevent outages.

The state has allocated specific emergency funds to finalize energy projects, aiming to shield domestic and industrial sectors from the “negative economic fallout” and volatile fuel prices caused by the ongoing war.

Food security

The delegation, which included Supply Minister Sherif Farouk, moved to the Ataka Wheat Silos to audit the national grain reserve.

Madbouly noted that Egypt is actively reinforcing its strategic stockpile of basic commodities to withstand potential disruptions in global supply chains.

By securing both “fuel and flour,” the state aims to maintain market stability despite the “geopolitical shocks” currently shaking the Middle East.
