Egypt’s stock market to close on April 12-13 for Easter, Sham El-Nessim

Cairo's equity market will extend its coming weekend as the exchange shuts on April 12 and 13, marking the Eastern Easter holiday and the beginning of spring, a bourse statement said on Sunday.

Trading will resume on Tuesday, April 14, according to the statement.

Egypt's Christians are mostly Coptic Orthodox.

Sham El-Nessim, an Egyptian national holiday that falls after Easter, celebrates the arrival of spring. Many Egyptians spend the day outdoors, painting eggs and eating uncooked salted and dry fish, traditions that some say date back to the Pharonic era.
