Egypt's president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met Sunday with CIA Director John Brennan to discuss regional developments and terrorism.
The meeting was held in the attendance of Egyptian general intelligence director Khaled Fawzy and the US ambassador to Egypt Robert Stephen Beecroft.
The meeting comes about 10 days ahead of the fifth anniversary of January 25 revolution.
Egypt's relations with the US were strained when the US partially suspended its military aid to the Middle Eastern country following the army's ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, after protests against his rule.
The US resumed the aid in March 2015.
With the aim of "confronting terrorism in the region", the US delivered eight F-16 Block II “Fighting Falcons” to Egypt in July and four more were delivered in October, said the US embassy in a statement in November 2015.
Earlier in October, Egypt and the US agreed to resume the joint production of military tanks M1A1 in the Egyptian Tank Plant 200, a military factory located in Helwan's industrial zone, south of Cairo which also comes as part of the US $1.3 billion "annual commitment" to support Egypt’s security, the embassy added in a statement in October 2015.
