Moscow–Egyptian tourism ministry adviser, Helmy Bedeir, on Wednesday said Egyptian authorities will financially compensate the Russian tourists injured last week by shark attacks near the Red Sea resort city of Sharm al-Sheikh.
“Everyone of the Russian tourists who were affected by the shark attacks will receive a compensation of US$50,000 from the Egyptian government,” Bedeir said in a press conference organized by Russian news agency Novosti.
A shark mauled three Russian tourists and one Ukrainian while they swam off Sharm al-Sheikh's beaches. A 70-year-old female German tourist was also fatally wounded by a shark on 4 December, near the Naema Bay beach.
