Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat held talks on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 with Alexey Kononenko, Deputy Head of Russia’s Atomstroyexport and project director of the Dabaa nuclear power plant, to enhance cooperation and increase local manufacturing in Egypt’s nuclear program.
The meeting focused on localizing components for the Dabaa plant and other nuclear projects in the Middle East, in line with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directives to support domestic industry and transfer advanced technologies.
Esmat said that Egypt aims to expand local production of key electrical and nuclear components, including reactor containment parts and cooling system joints, with Egyptian labor now representing around 80% of the project workforce.
The two sides reviewed the project’s progress, training programs for Egyptian technicians, and preparations to install the turbine generator for the first reactor by year-end.
Esmat stressed that the Dabaa project aligns with Egypt’s peaceful nuclear energy strategy and long-term plans to diversify electricity generation sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
