CAIRO, Nov 8 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Saturday received a phone call from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as part of the ongoing coordination and consultations between Egypt and Russia on bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said that both ministers reaffirmed the depth of historic Egyptian-Russian relations and the growing momentum across various fields of cooperation, particularly economic and trade relations.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the strategic partnership linking the two countries, which serves as a framework for cooperation in multiple sectors.
The call also tackled developments in the Gaza Strip. The foreign minister reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to uphold and implement the Sharm El Sheikh peace agreement, emphasizing the need to move to the second phase of the plan, covering political, developmental and humanitarian dimensions, to ensure sustainable calm and regional stability.
He also referred to preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Reconstruction, Early Recovery and Development in Gaza, set to be held in Cairo, underlining the importance of mobilizing international support to rebuild the Strip and ease humanitarian suffering.
The two ministers agreed on the need to preserve the Sudanese state and its national institutions, uphold the country’s unity and sovereignty and reject parallel entities, the spokesman said.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s unity and stability, highlighting Cairo’s engagement through the Quartet Mechanism to achieve a ceasefire and de-escalation.
He stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation to secure a comprehensive and humanitarian truce and open safe corridors for aid delivery to affected areas, condemning the grave violations in Al Fashir city and expressing Egypt’s deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation.
